Man banned from driving after Telford crash which saw two children airlifted to hospital

A man has admitted an offence of dangerous driving relating to a two-car crash in Telford - which resulted in two children being airlifted to hospital.

Lee Derek Hughes, 25, yesterday was given an immediate driving ban when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

The case relates to a collision, on the A4169 Queensway involving a Peugeot van and a VW Polo on August 1, last year at about 12.40pm.

Hughes, of Ken Jones Close, Lightmoor, will be sentenced on September 2.

Judge Anthony Lowe said: "This is a serious matter. Serious injuries appear to have been caused. All sentencing options are open."

At the time of the crash West Mecia Police launched a witness appeal. The children and three adults were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries following the incident near Dawley Hamlets.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent four ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance and the Welsh Air Ambulance to the scene.
