Murdered man's blood found on two suspects' trainers, jury told
The blood of a man kicked to death in Oldbury was found on footwear belonging to the two suspects accused of his murder, a jury has heard.
Stains on the jumper and both trainers worn by Damon Sehra, aged 22, contained the blood of Amjad Khan, Mr Andrew Smith QC, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Another trainer discovered during a police search of the Old Chapel Road, Smethwick, home of the long time partner of 32-year-old Derek Brennan – who regularly stayed at the address – allegedly also had traces of the victim’s blood.
Mr Khan died five days after being battered at a property in Yarley Close, Bristnall Fields, the home of Sehra’s mother Lisa – the sister of his co-accused – minutes after midnight on June 8 last year.
Mr Smith said he expected the younger defendant, who admits manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, to argue he was drunk and lost control after hearing a conversation on a speaker phone in which Mr Khan said he was bringing drugs for his mother.
The prosecutor said: “There was no loss of self control. He participated in an unjustified attack with the intention, at least, of causing really serious harm.”
The court heard this caused the victim to have a cardiac arrest which triggered an untreatable brain injury after allegedly being struck with between seven and 10 blows with at least one with an empty bottle, and he was taken to Birmingham’s QE Hospital where he later died, the jury heard.
Sehra, of no fixed address, denies murder but admits manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Brennan, of Halesowen Road, Netherton, denies all the alleged offences.
