Three teenagers arrested on firearms charges after shots fired in street
Three people are in custody after a firearm was discharged on a city street.
Police were called to the scene on Hurst Street in Birmingham after a shot was fired from a VW Polo, which then fled the scene.
CCTV footage of the scene at 11.30pm on Friday was checked and enquiries showed the shot was a blank round, fired down an empty street, with no one injured and no buildings damaged.
Two passengers, who were inside the vehicle at the time, were later spotted entering an apartment complex on Essex Street, which was subsequently sealed off by officers.
An 18-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were then arrested by police on suspicion of firearms offences.
The 18-year-old driver of the VW Polo was then stopped by firearms officers on Hurst Street and arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The car was seized along with a blank firing handgun, ammunition and casings from the scene, which was cordoned off for forensic examination.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We were called shortly before 11.30pm last night to reports of a firearms discharge on Hurst Street, Birmingham.
"The shot was fired from a VW Polo, which later fled the scene, and the incident was captured on CCTV. Officers immediately flooded the area to progress an investigation.
"Enquiries show that the shot was a blank round, fired down an empty street. No one was injured and no buildings have been damaged.

"The passengers, who were inside the vehicle at the time, were spotted entering a nearby apartment complex where an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of firearms offences.
"The VW Polo later returned to Hurst Street, and was stopped by firearms officers. The 18-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
"The car was seized along with a blank firing handgun, ammunition and casings from the scene, which was cordoned off while forensic investigators carried out an examination.
"A number of witnesses have been spoken to and the three people arrested remain in police custody where they will be questioned in due course."
