Telford footbridge spray-painted by vandals
Police are appealing for information after vandals spray-painted Telford's newest footbridge.
Telford & Wrekin Council released images of young vandals with spray cans on the Silver Swallow bridge, connecting Telford Central railway station with the town centre. The images can be seen at facebook.com/TelfordWrekin.
The council said: "Do you know who these people are?
"If you have information, please call police on 101 or send them a message at facebook.com/westmerciapolice/ quoting crime ref: 22/8541/21."
The new footbridge, funded by a Department for Transport grant that the council bid for and won, opened to pedestrians in November 2018 and in time for the town’s 50th birthday celebrations. It also won three awards at the West Midlands ICE awards in May 2019 despite suffering drainage problems during heavy rain.
The bridge was named through a competition for schoolchildren.
Pupils were given the task of coming up with potential names for the glass-sided walkway in a two-part project that encouraged creative writing with history and research.
