Boozers leaving trail of litter across town
An increasing amount of litter coating streets and lanes has been raising concerns.
Tin cans, bottles of alcohol, takeaway boxes and plastic wrappers have been picked up in their hundreds by volunteers in Bridgnorth, who say the situation is fast getting “out of hand”.
Councillor Julia Buckley, who represents East ward, said she had received dozens of messages in recent weeks from frustrated litter pickers, who are finding more rubbish than they can handle.
She said a large portion of litter was from “lockdown drinkers” and highlighted Telegraph Lane as being particularly bad.
“The situation is getting ridiculous,” she added.
“There are huge amounts of tin cans and bottles of alcohol from lockdown drinkers who are going out to drink and then dumping them anywhere.
"We’re a beautiful town on the river but in the last year it has become much worse and the litter problem is disgusting – it’s getting out of hand and just can’t carry on.
“We have loads of volunteers who regularly litter pick and they’re the unsung heroes but in the last couple of weeks I’ve been contacted by numerous people.”
