Shrewsbury man, 36, jailed for beating woman up

A Shrewsbury man has been jailed for more than two years for beating up a woman.

Philip Mutch, 36, had initially denied committing the offence and was due to face a jury trial, but changed his pleas at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

He was sentenced after pleading guilty to offences of unlawful wounding, assault causing actual bodily harm, controlling behaviour and assault by beating.

The case relates to incidents which happened between January 2019 and June last year.

A further charge of sexual assault relating to the same complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mutch, of Castle Foregate. Shrewsbury, was jailed for a total of two years and 10 months.(on Feb5)

He must serve half of his sentence before being released on licence. Mutch has been on remand in custody since he was arrested last June.

Mutch was also made subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the woman in any way.
