Of those, two reported in the Wellington area in the early hours of the morning on Sunday are thought to be linked.

In addition around 75 per cent of another car was destroyed at a site off Waterloo Road, in Ketley, at about 11.45pm on Saturday.

Four hours later, at 3.45am on Sunday, the crews were called to an incident, in Victoria Avenue, Wellington, where they found two vehicles damaged by fire and one vehicle with a small amount of heat damage.

As a result of the discovery Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service sent a fire investigation officer to the scene.

In a tweet the brigade posted: "Crews attended Victoria Ave, Wellington, to reports of a car fire involving two vehicles and one affected by radiated heat."

Increased patrols

Inspector Simon Dunn, of Malinsgate Police Station, said: “We attended a number of vehicle fires in Telford over the weekend which are being treated as arson. These included two incidents in Wellington. One in Regent Street at 6.30pm on March 6 and another in Victoria Road at 3.55am on March 7.

"At this time we believe the two to be linked.

“We were also called to a vehicle fire in Waterloo Road in Ketley at 11.45pm on March 6 and we are investigating this as a separate incident, however, all possibilities are being considered.

“I would like to reassure the community that we have increased patrols in these areas. Anyone with information is urged contact us through the Tell Us About section of our website.”

Crews based at Wellington Fire Station put out the fires.
