Telford man who denies assault charge likely to stand trial in December
A Shropshire man has denied causing actual bodily harm to another but will not stand trial until December because of court backlogs.
Jamie Wakeley, 28, stood in the dock at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday to plead not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He also denied a charge of affray – both of the charges relate to an alleged incident on June 8 last year.
Wakeley, of Smallwood in Sutton Hill, Telford, was told his trial should take place in the two-week period beginning December 6.
Judge Peter Barrie said the crown court was dealing with a "considerable backlog".
Wakeley was released on unconditional bail.
He was represented in court by Mr Ranjit Sandhu, and the prosecution was represented by Mr Simon Parry.
