Man, 25, jailed for horrifying reign of terror and violence against woman
A man who subjected a woman to a violent reign of terror, suffocating and repeatedly punching her as well as holding a knife to her throat has been jailed.
Piers Halligan, 25, of Temeside Gardens, Ludlow, admitted a total of ten charges when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.
During the hearing Judge Peter Barrie heard an emotional statement read on behalf of Halligan's victim.
Prosecutor, Alexa Carrier, told the court how Halligan's actions were driven by jealousy and an obsession with his victim's past – with his anger and violence repeatedly sparked by her refusal to give him access to her mobile telephone.
In total Halligan admitted five charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of non-fatal strangulation, along with individual charges of non-fatal suffocation, false imprisonment, and threatening another with an article with a blade or point.
Miss Carrier told the court that the first incident had taken place in May 2022, when Halligan slapped his victim to the side of her head.
The assault caused a black eye, a swollen lip, and left her with a perforated ear drum and nerve damage to her face.
Further attacks followed in June, where Halligan demanded access to the victim's phone, slapping her every time she said no.
