'Violent bully' chip shop owner jailed for 'emotional torture' of woman
An alcoholic chip shop owner described by a judge as a “violent bully” has been jailed for two years after a campaign of coercive control against a woman.
Daler Singh, 47, formerly of of Edgerton Place, Whitchurch, who owns Snapper Fish and Chips, in Brownlow Street, was witnessed by employees at the shop threatening the woman with a kebab knife after she refused to do the washing up.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Singh, who admitted controlling and coercive behaviour, was an “alcoholic” with five previous convictions for drink driving as well as a number of other alcohol-related offences, the court was told.
Defending Singh, Paul Smith KC said his client accepted he was “an alcoholic and alcohol dependent” but added that he was now alcohol free having spent six months in prison on remand.
