Rough sleeper 'threatened to bite nose off' Shrewsbury shop worker as boss applies for extra security
A shop boss has applied to put security screens across his shop front after a rough sleeper threatened “bite the nose off” his colleague.
Halon Menswear has put in an application for the screens at its Grade II-listed home in High Street, Shrewsbury.
Boss Paul Lord says it has been “expensive” to apply for the extra security measures, but it is in response to a “huge” anti-social behaviour problem.
He described drug taking, urinating and colleagues being threatened among some of the worst incidents.
“We continue to see black patches on the floor which would suggest drug taking,” he said.
“We’ve had people sleeping in the foyer. We get some pretty disgusting behaviour.
“One of them threatened to bite the nose off my colleague. They can be very aggressive.
“They are always using the doorway as a toilet.
“The beggars are aggressive. They pay a lot of money to come to Shrewsbury. You see them arriving on buses and trains. Then they go home with their £50 or £60 or however much they make, happy as Larry.
“We’ve been here 72 years and we’ve never needed this before,” he said of the screens.
