Phillip Fraser, 70, of Aston Butts, Shrewsbury, became involved in a row with James Kynaston, who had accused him of reversing a van into his car on March 21, 2021.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard Fraser had been found guilty of two offences at trial, one of causing grievous bodily harm without intent, and a second of causing criminal damage to property.

Lee Egan, prosecuting, said that in the row that followed the initial accusation, Mr Kynaston had taken the keys from Fraser's van and thrown them into a hedge.

The court heard that Fraser had got out of the van 'flailing his arms' and the pair ended up near the hedge with Mr Kynaston holding Fraser.

The pair were separated and Fraser then went to his van where he opened the door and picked up a pickaxe handle.

Mr Egan said the handle was then swung into the bonnet of Mr Kynaston's car, leaving it badly damaged.
