Paedophile, 85, finally exposed after creeping into girl's bedroom and touching her 60 years ago
An elderly paedophile has finally been exposed after sexually assaulting a girl 60 years ago.
John Buckle, now aged 85, crept into the bedroom of a girl who would have been aged between six and eight at the time, and touched her private parts.
The ordeal caused her "a lifetime of problems", Shrewsbury Crown Court was told.
It happened between 1963 and 1965, when Buckle would have been aged between 25 and 27. "He would cover her mouth with his mouth and put his hand on her private parts," said Oliver Woolhouse, prosecuting.
"She was a little girl who didn't know how to stop it," he added. "She felt she couldn't do anything."
The court was told that later, Buckle had a "serious accident" with a lawnmower at a churchyard, an incident which the victim saw as "divine retribution". As a result of that, she decided not to say anything.
Decades later, she decided she needed to tell people what happened to her. She told her husband and sister, before contacting Buckle's wife and telling her.
