Uninsured provisional driver took mother's car to drive to his grieving girlfriend's - and crashed

An uninsured driver with a provisional license took his mother's car without her permission to go and see his grieving partner - only to crash into another car and cop a 12-month driving ban.

Daniel Aaron Jones, who is 29, wanted to be with his partner who had suffered a bereavement, and took his mother's Volkswagen Golf on Monday, September 25 this year, despite the fact he was not insured to drive it and only had a provisional driver's license.

Police were called to reports of a two-car crash in Unicorn Road in Oswestry at about 5.45pm on September 25, Telford Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday this week.

Prosecutor Sara Beddow told the court that nobody had been injured in the two-car crash, in which Jones had accidentally hit a car driving in front of him.

"The defendant was the driver of [the Golf] which belonged to his mother.
