A Mid Wales headteacher, who was suspended while a police and county council investigation took place, is back in post.

Suzanne Foster has been reinstated at Ysgol Maesydre, Welshpool, after being suspended at the end of January.

Powys County Council has never revealed the nature of the allegations against her.

A spokesman for the council said: "The headteacher of Ysgol Maesydre, who was suspended from duties on January 31 pending investigation into allegations, was re-instated on February 18 and will return to the school following the half-term holiday.

"The governing body's decision to suspend was taken upon the recommendation of a multi-disciplinary professional strategy meeting, which included the police and social services."

Ms Foster's treatment was criticised by the National Association of Head Teachers.

Anne Hovey, Welsh regional officer, said: "We are delighted she has been re-instated and we expected it. While we understand, and accept, that there is a need for suspension in certain circumstances, it was not necessary in this case and other alternatives were not explored."
