A primary school in south Shropshire has been placed into special measures because Government inspectors say it is 'failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education'.

In a report, the education watchdog Ofsted said senior staff at the 36-pupil Hope C of E School, near Minsterley, 'are not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement'.

The inspectors found that disabled pupils and those with special educational needs were not making enough progress, although the majority of pupils were making satisfactory impro-vements and the most able pupils often found work stimulating and challenging

Local Education Authority Shropshire Council today said the school was working very closely with its advisors to ensure measures needed to bring about improvements were put in place.

Headteacher Karen Mosedale said: "An action plan is in place to take the school forward, focused on the key priorities."
