Walford and North Shropshire College has recently confirmed the appointment of Lyn Hunter as its lead tutor for new full-time courses in Animal Care starting at its Shipley Campus in September 2012.

Lyn has taught at the College for over ten years and is currently based at the Walford Campus near Shrewsbury.

Lyn is delighted to be taking up the role of lead tutor for the new animal care courses starting at Shipley from September this year.

She said: "The Shipley Campus offers a fantastic learning environment and thanks to recent capital investment, the new animal care courses are already recruiting well. My aim is to provide an outstanding new vocational option for young people from Bridgnorth, South Telford and the Shropshire/Staffordshire border villages"

Lyn is already well known in Shropshire for her work with dogs. She helped to organise the World Congress for Curly Coated Retrievers at Walford back in 2010, taking Best in Show with her Curly Coated Retriever, Travis.

She won Best of Breed at Cruft's with Travis in 2009 and best Dog with her American import, Myles, in 2010.

Recently, at Cruft's, Lyn's dogs won Best Puppy and Best Veteran.

She is a dedicated teacher full of enthusiasm for working with students and animals. She was one of the driving forces behind the Shropshire Top Dog competition held at the Holiday Inn, Telford, in February of this year and will be taking Animal Care students from Walford to summer shows at Newport and Whitchurch later in the year.

Andrew Tyley, College Principal and Chief Executive is full of praise for Lyn.

He said: "I can't think of a stronger appointment that we could have made to this important new post. Our ambition for Shipley is to replicate the success we have achieved with Animal Care at Walford by additional capacity within easy reach of Bridgnorth and South Telford.

"We are at an exciting phase of preparations for the summer launch of the new Animal Care courses, with further appointments due in the coming months and phased stocking of a range of animals at the centre, including reptiles, exotics and birds"

Prospective students and their parents can find out more by visiting the College website - www.wnsc.ac.uk - or contacting Kathryn Blaney, Campus Administrator at Shipley on 01902 709840. The Shipley Campus is easy to find, sharing the same site as Gardenlands on the Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth Road.

Travis, a Curly Coated Retriever who won Veteran Dog; a class for dogs over 7 years old with Lyn Hunter and Jack, a Sussex Spaniel who went on to win 5th place in Open Dog; the top class for males. Travis was also sire to the winner of the Best Bitch category for the third year running.
