Celebrations were being held today to bid farewell to three schools in Shropshire which are closing next month.

Maesbury School, near Oswestry, and Hopton Wafers School, near Ludlow, are being closed as part of a Shropshire Council education shake-up.

And in Shawbury, the village's two primary schools, Shawbury Primary School and St Mary's, are merging to create a single school on the Shawbury Primary site.

Headteachers said this afternoon's events were a celebration of their schools' history.

Rosemary Finney, from Maesbury School, said the community would be celebrating with fun and games.

Celebrations at Hopton Wafers School include a fete, barbecue and stalls.
