Marches School in Oswestry to open sixth form
Shropshire's largest secondary school will open a sixth form next year, it has been announced.
The Marches School in Oswestry, the first academy school in the county, will open a sixth form offering A level studies from September 2013.
Education bosses say the move is the 'next exciting step' for the school, which has more than 1,200 students, following the change to an academy in August last year.
As well as A-levels, the sixth form will also look at the possibility of offering the alternative International Baccalaureate.
The sixth form will, initially, only be accessible to Marches School pupils.
Headteacher Sarah Longville said: "Over the past couple of years we have reached some crucial milestones including an outstanding Ofsted report, academy status and our best ever GCSE results in August.
"We are delighted to now have the opportunity to further nurture our students' through their post-16 education and give them the opportunity to continue with their learning at the school.
"I strongly believe that students will continue to thrive at The Marches due to the strong pastoral support system, highly successful teaching staff and a culture of high expectations."
