Ellesmere Primary School earns talent award
Bright sparks at a primary school in Shropshire are celebrating after it became one of about 50 nationwide to be honoured for its work with high-achieving pupils.
Ellesmere Primary School in Elson Road is the 51st school in Britain to be accredited by the National Association for Able Children in Education for a second time.
The award recognises the school's work to engage and hold the interest of the brightest, high-achieving pupils.
In recent years, a large number of education campaigns have focused on ensuring no child gets left behind.
But the NACE accreditation recognises schools which go the extra mile to cater for the most able youngsters.
Deputy headteacher Sharon Murnosaid: "We're very proud of the staff and the pupils for all the hard work they have put into achieving this re-accreditation. The ethos is for every child to reach their maximum potential. We believe the rising tide lifts all the ships."
She said under a partnership with the Lakelands School, also in Ellesmere, the primary school's most able students have been working closely with younger secondary school pupils on writing projects.
The primary school's most able children were also asked to write reviews of the Lakelands School's production of Roald Dahl's classic story Matilda.
Rowena Gaston, NACE chief executive, said: "Assessors judged the quality of the school's work by observing lessons, interviewing the pupils and teachers."
