Ellesmere Primary School is planning to expand
A school in Shropshire which is operating close to capacity will be expanded, under plans revealed today.
Additional classrooms will be created at Ellesmere Primary School if proposals to boost the pupil roll are given the go-ahead, Shropshire Council bosses say.
And chiefs are also monitoring pupil numbers at Lakelands School where one year group is currently full.
The issues were discussed at last night's Ellesmere Town Council meeting.
A letter from Shropshire Council , read to the meeting, said a feasibility study would have to be carried out before extra classrooms were introduced at Ellesmere Primary.
Councillor Lynne Davies said the plans were a 'step in the right direction'.
Karen Bradshaw, head of learning and skills at Shropshire Council, said: "Due to demographic changes, Shropshire Council does have to review the number of school places available across Shropshire.
"We are looking into the possibility of providing additional classrooms at Ellesmere Primary School in the next few years due to increasing pupil numbers.
"At present only one year group is full at The Lakelands School. Pupil numbers will continue to be monitored."
