The puffin crossing has been put in at the Walford campus of Walford and North Shropshire College, near Baschurch.

This is the first completed step in the planned investment which will see a new apprenticeship headquarters, five classrooms, office space for up to 20 staff and a large multi-purpose workshop.

Work is expected to start in the coming months after a planning application to Shropshire Council was approved last month. The college was given cash from the Skills Funding Agency for the scheme, which will create five jobs over the next two years.

The crossing has been installed on the B5067 and Jon Parry, director of Walford, said it was much needed.

He said: "The road bisects the Walford Campus and has become a very busy road, which students and staff have to cross many times each day.

"The introduction of the crossing will provide a much needed positive risk reduction measure. I am really pleased with the puffin crossing it is a key step in our development plan for Walford and ensures the superb teaching facilities being developed on Walford farm are easily accessible for all our learners."

Under the plans the college will convert two grade II listed buildings and the new areas will include an extension to the rural skills centre and a new rural enterprise hub.

On Sunday the college has a spring lambing day from 11am to 4pm. For details visit www.wnsc.ac.uk or call (01939) 262100.
