Telford school 'sleepover' raises money for charity
Sleeping at school is normally frowned at, but an exception was made for youngsters at one Telford school.
Decked in pyjamas, the seven and eight-year-olds enjoyed a giant sleepover.
The event was great fun and also raised money for charity.
Pupils at Woodlands Primary School in Madeley also held a litter pick to tidy up the local area.
The year two children have been taking part in a project this summer term called 'Our Community'.
The youngsters must complete random acts of kindness, while also learning more about the history of their town, finding out about its current needs and what they can do to help the community.
School business manager Vanessa Bradley said: "For inspiration the children have a list of challenges and projects to complete by the end of year two.
"Two of these were completed this week."
More than 40 year two children held a sleepover in the school hall, while also raising £149 for the Telford homelessness charity Stay.
The children were also given a brief talk by visitors from the charity who explained how they will use the funds.
Year two teacher, Tina Murray, said: "It was a successful night and we had an amazing attitude and response from both children and parents.
"Staff felt very proud and privileged to have shared the experience with them.
"They had great fun with activities including a night time exploration of the sensory garden, investigating how the school looked differently at night, a sing song by torch light and finally, hot chocolate and marshmallows with DVD, before bedtime."
The second challenge of the week was to carry out a tidy-up of the local area with a littler pick as part of The Big Tidy Up.
Mrs Murray said: "The kids enjoyed picking up litter and making a difference to their local community and environment."
The children have already started to think about their next area to target as part of the clear-up.
