Adcote School, at Little Ness, was praised for having attracted overseas investment to Shrewsbury with an ambitious development plan.

The school's boarding facilities will be increased by 180 beds in single and twin ensuite rooms, and living areas will have full wi-fi. The new buildings on the campus will also include a sports hall and additional teaching and catering space

The multi-million pound investment programme over the next few years will include investment in an international admissions office in Birmingham and also in Beijing, China.

Former mayor of Shrewsbury Councillor Jon Tandy presented the gold award to the school as part of his Mayor of Shrewsbury Awards 2014 "in recognition and appreciation of your outstanding contribution to the community".

Headmaster Gary Wright said: "We are delighted that the school has been recognised in this way. The school has worked hard over the last few years to ensure that we offer superb pastoral care, outstanding academic results and a broad and well-balanced curriculum. The school's recent success has attracted many new pupils and word of our strong reputation is spreading across Shropshire."

"In 2011 we were short-listed in the Independent School of the Year awards, in 2012 the school won the award for excellence from the Independent School Association and now we are delighted that we have scooped another award recognising the school's continuing development and achievement.

"Adcote also plays a leading role in helping put Shrewsbury on the map academically. We are proud that in 2014 and for the third year in a row, Adcote came first in the county for A level results beating all other girls, boys and co-educational independent and state schools in the region with our sixth form cohort."
