William Lockett has taken over as head at Abberley Hall School in Great Witley, near Tenbury Wells.

Mr Lockett, 44, attended the independent day and boarding school in the 1980s, before going on to Winchester College and Manchester University where he graduated with first class honours in classics.

He takes over from John Walker who retired this year after 18 years as headmaster at the school.

Mr Lockett previously taught at Dauntsey's School, Wiltshire and Bryanston School, Dorset, where he was also a housemaster.

David Legh, chair of governors at Abberley, said: "We are thrilled to have selected Will as our new headmaster. He is steeped in the tradition of our school but he will nevertheless bring new ideas and aspirations."

Mr Lockett said: "I am delighted to be appointed as headmaster of Abberley Hall. I was extremely happy here as a pupil and it is an honour to return to a school with such an impressive reputation on the national stage."

Mr Lockett is married to Beth and they have three children aged 13, 11 and nine. His interests outside work include being an experienced beekeeper.
