Children at Market Drayton Junior School spent an afternoon making a 100 shape on the school field as part of its centenary celebrations and a crew from nearby RAF Shawbury agreed to take a picture.

Headteacher Tim Hayward said: "We were looking through the archives and saw a similar photo where the children spelt out something on the field.

"We have always had a good relationship with the forces and the RAF. So we asked the RAF to come and take an aerial photo of the children in a shape of 100. Hopefully we will be able to get a copy.

"We have had a range of events through the year for the centenary – a music show and fireworks, we are going to have a big 1940s garden party, and we have commissioned a mosaic for outside the school."

The school's mosaic will feature a 1915 theme to represent when the school opened and a 2015 theme to commemorate the 100th year of the school.

But children have also been learning about a whole range of topics during their lessons – from Myan civilisation to daring discoveries.

Mr Hayward said: "We have had the different year groups out on trips, to a museum on Liverpool, to Fordhall Farm and a residential trip to the Conwy Centre.

"They have also been learning about behaviour and learning and setting goals for their ambitions."
