Shrewsbury academic wins top award for project
A prestigious higher education award has been presented to Shrewsbury academic for his work to help office workers avoid health problems.
Professor John Buckley, has been handed The Educate – North Research Project of the Year Award for highlighting the benefits of standing desks.
The award comes in the same week that first ever UK guidance was published to curb the health risks of sitting for long periods, produced by an international group of eight experts, including Professor Buckley.
The awards celebrate the outstanding teams, people and initiatives of further and higher education institutions.
Professor Buckley has been contributing to the development of the University Centre Shrewsbury curriculum as part of the University of Chester academic support team.
The professor will lecture in sports medicine, health and exercise science at the institution from September. He will be based in the institute of medicine, which delivers programmes working closely with clinical colleagues.
Professor Buckley said: "I am extremely honoured to receive this award."
