The 23-year-old from Church Stretton, who studied food nutrition and wellbeing, was one of 50 students at the university to receive first class honours.

More than 600 students at the university in Edgmond, near Newport, donned their caps and gowns yesterday as they prepared to start the next stage in their careers.

Michelle said: "I have had the best four years of my life here at Harper Adams.

"I am very sad to be leaving but I cannot wait to see what happens next, and it really is a brilliant university.

"I have made some lifelong friends here, and every weekend I am travelling up and down the country visiting them.

"Like they say at Harper Adams, work hard and play harder."

Also graduating yesterday was Izzy Tomley, 23, from Oswestry, who leaves with a 2:1 in agri-food marketing with business studies, and her friend Zoe Evans from Shrewsbury, who studied the same course.

Both said they had made lifelong friends, and Zoe is preparing to go travelling around New Zealand.

The students who completed their degrees in the summer were congratulated by meteorologist and climate scientist Dame Julia Slingo, who also received an honorary degree from the agricultural university.
