Lloyd Williams taught history at the Grange School, Harlescott, for more than 24 years before retiring eight years ago.

He died of a heart attack last Thursday.

Grange School headteacher Lorraine Ward said: "During his 24 years at the Grange School he taught several thousand students, many of whom have contacted the school with their fond memories and messages of condolence for his family.

"Our memories are of a gregarious and fun-loving, but also of a gentle man who could spin a really good yarn.

"The story telling was put to very good use in the teaching of history which prompted large numbers of students to study the subject and achieve well.

"His presence will be missed by all but he has left us a lot richer for having known him."
