New Shrewsbury College course for budding teachers
Budding teachers will be able to complete their further education at Shrewsbury College as part of an expansion.
In response to demand from current foundation degree students, the college will welcome seven students onto the new BA Honours in Education top-up degree course in September.
These students have already completed a foundation degree in education at the college.
"This is a significant step forward both for the college and for the students of Shropshire," said Higher Education and Education lead Helen Fellows.
"Previously students have had to move on to a university setting for this final year of their degree, but it is so much easier and more cost-effective for them to be able to stay and study in Shrewsbury. We have exceptional facilities and have engaged outstanding staff to deliver the top-up degree."
Of the seven students, six are planning to continue on to become primary school teachers.
The course runs over just one day a week in college, which frees people up to continue with a job or helps them to fit the study around their home life.
