Teachers and governors from The Corbet School, in Baschurch, met with neighbouring schools to discuss the possibility of becoming an academy.

Officials have said talks are in early stages and there would be further consultations before any decision is made.

Roger Ford, chairman of governors at The Corbet School, said:"Headteachers and governors from The Corbet School and local primary schools held a meeting on January 26 to consider the possibility of forming a multi academy trust (MAT).

"This was an exploratory meeting and further consultations will be held before any decisions are taken."

"Such a multi academy trust would not change the existing secular or church status of the individual schools. "

The majority of secondary schools in Shropshire have already become academies and joined multi-academy trusts.

An increasing number of primary schools in the county are now considering their options for conversion, in line with continuing encouragement from the government.
