Telford lollipop lady retires after 43 years of service
She's been a feature at Wrockwardine Wood Infant School for over forty years.
But, at the end of this week, Jan Warren is retiring from her role as the school's lollipop lady.
Jan has helped three generations of families safely cross the road to the school during her 43 years of service.
The 75-year-old first started when her three children were pupils at the school and is now a grandmother of six.
Jan, who lives in Wrockwardine Wood, said: "When our youngest was about to start school, the lady who was the lollipop lady at the time said she was giving it up and would I like a job.
"So I applied and I got it.
"I've loved it, it has been wonderful to see the shy little children starting school, leaving their mothers and seeing them confident when they leave us.
"It has been really wonderful to watch them grow."
And Jan, who marked 43 years at the school in September, is fondly remembered by many of the parents who take their own children to school.
She said: "I've seen generations of families attend the school.
"Sometimes I get people come up to me and say 'Do you remember when I came here?' and they'll be six feet five with a big beard and I'll say 'Perhaps if you tell me the name I might have more chance'."
She now hopes to use her retirement from the post to do some of the things she has always wanted to do.
She said: "I've realised I'm getting older, there are things I want to do, places I want to go and I'm going to do it while I'm still capable.
"It is going to be very strange to break the habit, I have loved it, you come in from the morning, dry off and then head out again later, you get time in the summer.
"I have really enjoyed it, I will miss the children, miss the parents, miss all the staff.
"It is going to be strange."
