Forensic science challenge for Concord College students
Students at a Shropshire school took on the role of detective in a role play to learn about forensic science.
The year nine pupils at Concord College had to solve a murder mystery in which the school caretaker had been murdered by a burglar in broad daylight.
They had to use a range of forensic science techniques to establish sufficient evidence to make a charge and present a case in court.
The forensic science day was one of a number of activities spread over a week for 43 students at the school.
The students donned boiler suits to carry out forensic science investigations which included DNA, UV lighting and chromatography.
They carried out checks on footprints and a letter purported to be written by the burglar.
“The day proved conclusively that the students are particularly interested in science,” said head of year nine Georgie Taylor, who organised the activities which included a visit to Concord by forensic scientist Dr. Jon Bates.
