Kinlet CofE Primary School, in Kinlet, south of Bridgnorth, will have two classes from September.

A meeting was held this week to inform parents of the changes.

Headteacher Anita Raymond said that in 2014 the school had a bulge in numbers so had to add a temporary third class.

She said: "Kinlet School invited parents to a meeting after school on Tuesday to give parents on overview of our class structure from September, as we are returning to a two class system.

"We wanted to explain the advantages of mixed age classes and to offer the opportunity for them to talk to staff. In 2014 we had a bulge in numbers which necessitated a third class.

"Like many other village schools, we will be operating two classes which will meet the needs of all our pupils."

Chris Mathews, commissioner for education improvement and efficiency at Shropshire Council, said: “Shropshire Council recognises that governors and school leaders are being proactive in ensuring the continued effectiveness of the school and are working with parents and carers to ensure all members of the school community understand the changes and are able to support children to fulfil their potential.”

The news comes after the announcement that an independent preparatory school just one mile away will close.

After 71 years, Moffats School, at Kinlet Hall, Kinlet, will close in July. The school is a boarding and day school for children aged three to 13.

Chairman Julian Engleheart said “educational activities” will still continue at the building near Bridgnorth.
