Students can go to the ball
Students at a Shropshire college can go to the ball, after a donation from a local business.
Oswestry architect company, DPA donated £400 towards Derwen College’s annual summer prom.
Students and staff at the specialist college for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities said they were grateful to receive the generous cash boost towards the event’s entertainment.
Principal, Meryl Green, said: "The Prom is a highlight in the student calendar and a wonderful way to round off the year and say a fond farewell to our leavers."
"The Oscars-themed party is the last big event for students to enjoy before they break up for the summer holidays, or leave college for good. It is their chance to get dressed up, glammed up and party with their friends.
"A lot of work and planning goes into this event which is organised by the Student Union Board. Every year students choose a theme and this year they will be recreating
an evening at the Oscars.
Picking up the donation from DPA were Student Union Board representatives, Ashley Beech, Rachel Pickford and Megan Eayrs.
Gavin Porritt and Gareth Edwards, directors of DPA said: “DPA are delighted to sponsor the Derwen Prom this year – it is a well-deserved charity and we always enjoy working with the college and meeting the
students.”
Student from across the country enjoy residential education at Derwen college along with local day students.
They can choose from a range of work based studies to help them go on and find employment when they leave.
The college has been rated as excellent by Ofsted.
