Decision on washed-out Wellington school is coming
A decision is being made today about whether a school damaged by a burst pipe will be in a fit condition to welcome students next week.
Charlton School in Wellington suffered damage on all three floors after a pipe burst on Friday evening last week, and contractors have been working to repair the damage.
Light fixtures and carpets were damaged and educational catch-up sessions had to be cancelled, but the borough council said that classrooms escaped damage.
It is still not clear whether the school will be able to re-open on Monday after the half-term holidays, and a final decision will be made on Friday.
Russell Griffin from Telford & Wrekin Council said: "The water leak at the Charlton School was contained on Monday and a contractor was quickly on site to assess the damage.
"Some ceiling and carpet tiles were affected but the damage was largely confined to the administrative areas of the school, classrooms were not affected.
"The school will more than likely re-open after half term on Monday but a final decision will be made tomorrow."
