Market Drayton pupils get into the sporting spirit with sponsored kurlathon
More than 100 schoolchildren from Market Drayton joined in a sponsored kurlathon to raise money for an organisation which supports British athletes.
The event at Stoke-On-Tern Primary School raised funds for Inspired Through Sport, which also sends athletes into schools to run workshops.
Canoe slalom athlete Kurts Adams will visit the school on Friday to talk to children about healthy diets, exercise and what it takes to be a good sportsman or woman.
To give something back to the organisation, pupils were sponsored to take part in floor kurling games. More than 110 children took part, between the ages of three and 11, and the money raised will go to Inspired Through Sport.
If they raise more than £250 they will also benefit from sports equipment for their school.
Debi Cattell, school business manager, said: “We had an inter-school competition and they all loved it. The sportsmanship shown from the children was great, they were absolutely fabulous. I would like to thank our PE lead, Anna McLean, who organised it all.
“The money will be going to Inspired Through Sport, they work with GB athletes.
“On Friday, we have Kurts Adams, the British junior canoe slalom champion, coming in to do a workshop.
“They will do a little fitness session, he will be talking about healthy diets, not giving up and what it takes to be a good sportsman.”
