All-through school looks set to go ahead
An all-through school, for children between the ages of four and 18, looks likely to be established in Llanfyllin next year.
Powys County Council will hear on Tuesday that there had only been one objection to the proposal for amalgamating the primary and the secondary schools.
Llanfyllin High School, which includes a sixth form, the adjacent County Primary School, will, if the plans are approved, close on August 31, 2020 with the new all-through school opening the next year.
The new school will be bilingual, something that the local community has been keen to continue.
A report to the cabinet says that implementing the proposal would lead to annual savings to the council of £42,681.
It says the proposals are: To provide a more sustainable model for delivering primary and secondary Welsh-medium and English-medium education in Llanfyllin; To enable education in Llanfyllin to be provided more efficiently; To provide robust leadership to pupils in all phases of education; To improve the quality of education to pupils in all phases of education; To provide seamless progression through each key stage of education.
"The outcome of the consultation carried out suggested that this is the preferred option," the report says.
