The group informed students in a letter about the latest case, which relates to an adult student studying art and design at the English Bridge Campus.

It comes after two confirmed cases at the college's London Road campus.

In the letter, Principal James Staniforth said: "I am writing to inform you that we have a third confirmed case of Covid-19. The case relates to an adult student studying the Level 3/4 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design course at the English Bridge Campus. The student is self-isolating in line with government guidance.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"The standard procedure has been followed and we have identified the close contacts of the student from the class records and lesson seating plans. The student with the confirmed case and their close contacts will only return to college after they have completed the required period of self-isolation and after being cleared to do so by the College’s Covid tracker.

"This student attends with one class/group of students at the English Bridge Campus, had no symptoms, and was tested as part of a random national testing process rather than because they felt unwell. The college remains open and students should continue to attend if they are well. The student had no contact with any students at Welsh Bridge or London Road campuses.

"The procedures and processes that we have put in place are working and are minimising the risk of infections across the three campuses, but Covid-19 is clearly present in our wider community. This means that we all need to continue to observe social distancing and other measures inside and outside of college in order to keep students, parents and staff as safe as possible."
