Concord College student Ruby Allen, 14, wowed DJs and listeners on the radio of BBC Music Introducing in Shropshire, a programme dedicated to playing the best undiscovered and under-the-radar music.

Playing an original song called Alien from Space, it was announced on the programme that Ruby had also been uploading her music to the show’s platform since 2018 – when only 11 years old.

The student, who has been at Concord College in Acton Burnell since 2019, also performed her first live solo performance in February 2019.

She said: “I hope to continue song writing and I would love to pursue a career in music.

“I am very interested in becoming a jazz singer and double bassist.”

Concord College’s head of music Stavros Kokkinos said the new song was written in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Ruby’s BTEC music course.

Resilient

“It is truly creative and resilient in action,” he said.

Ruby said: “I wanted to write something inspiring and hopeful, as well as giving a message that you should just be yourself and live a life that excites you.

“As well, as the fact I love aliens.”

Speaking of Ruby’s song, the BBC Radio DJ team said: “We can’t wait to hear more music from Ruby Allen – it is a name to keep an eye on – we are sure of that.”

Ruby’s sister Maisie, also a Concord student in form five, is a keen artist and has designed the covers for some of Ruby’s music EPS (extended play records).
