Rowing machines were pitched up at Acton Burnell-based Concord College and the triathlon consisted of a row of 1,500m (lower school) or 2,000m (upper school), a cycle of 3,000m and a run of 1,500m.

A total of 119 students took part, some competing in individual and team events, with a total of 25 race categories taking place over five and a half hours.

Students gathered on Concord’s Hall Meadow in year group bubbles over the course of the day, competing as individuals, or boys, girls or mixed teams of three.

House points were gained towards the coveted end of year house trophy and event organiser Julia Kerslake congratulated all the students who participated and the staff who helped.

She said: “It was so nice to watch a large house event taking place with more normality, and particularly to see students smiling and supporting one another in such a close contest.

“It’s important that we continue to offer such events, even with Covid-19 guidelines requiring new approaches, to ensure we look after the students’ mental and physical wellbeing.”

Mrs Kerslake, a member of the college sports department, added: “I look forward to the remaining events and seeing who will win the house trophy.”
