Academy trust ordered by Government to improve Telford school – or see it moved to another trust
An academy trust warned by the Government that one of its schools in Telford could be taken out of its control over concerns about poor performance says it is working to ensure "required improvements are made".
The Department for Education (DFE) wrote to the Community Academies Trust in May over its worries about Telford Priory School – one of 18 schools run by the Tamworth-based trust.
In the letter Andrew Warren, regional director for the DFE West Midlands, set out a timescale and a number of improvements needed to prevent the school being removed from the trust's portfolio, and moved to another academy organisation.
He had said: "I wrote on March 1, 2023, to inform the trust that, after considering all of the information and evidence, I was not satisfied that the academy trust has the capacity and capability to deliver rapid and sustained improvements at the academy and that I therefore intended to issue a termination warning notice."
He added: "The academy has not been judged as good by Ofsted since joining the academy trust in September 2015. I remain concerned that the trust has not been able to demonstrate stable, consistent improvement at the academy over a prolonged period of time."
