Widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the UK's top schools, The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2024 ranks the country's highest-achieving secondary schools.

In the West Midlands, two Shropshire schools have been lauded.

Shrewsbury's Concord College has been awarded Independent School of the Year in the West Midlands.

Dr Michael Truss, principal at Concord College, said they were "delighted" to win the award.

He said: "The West Midlands is home to a wide range of very different independent schools, many of them very special in some way so to win the West Midlands Independent School of the Year award is an honour.

"At Concord we believe that the power of independent education is finding the right school for an individual child. Concord is unique, bringing the highest levels of academic achievement alongside a diverse and liberal community.

"As an international school, students come to us from all around the world - 37 nationalities at the moment - so for our local students there is an amazing opportunity to study in a genuinely international environment right here in the West Midlands.”

Newport Girls' High School was also ranked in the top ten in the region - coming in as the 9th best state secondary in the West Midlands.
