Labour MP Julia Buckley visited Woodfield Infant School in Copthorne where children aged between four and seven quizzed her on why she wanted to be an MP, family life and topics that concern them.
The MP engaged with the children who have a particular interest and concern about turtles and crabs living in polluted oceans.
Julia Buckley MP said: "It was really wonderful and a breath of fresh air to listen to the views and ideas of young children, and to see just how engaged they are with the world around them.
"They were brilliantly inquisitive and genuinely interested in the work of an MP, and had lots of questions for me.
"They were worried about turtles and crabs living in polluted oceans, and on the classroom wall was a poster showing three bears expressing their emotions - one was angry, one was sad, one was worried, and the children referred to this to tell me how they felt.
"I was able to tell them that they could worry a little less because I would definitely do some work on it for them. I am a member of the Environmental Audit Committee which means I can do something about the environment and hopefully help these animals that they’re so worried about.
“They were completely charming and so interested in the world around them."
Mrs Buckley also met Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from Shrewsbury’s Severn Bridge Multi Academy Trust that features Radbrook, Greenfields and Mount Pleasant primary schools, Sundorne Infant School and Harlescott Junior School.
The MP added: "Again, the children were full of interesting questions. Politics can seem daunting at times so I really enjoyed speaking to these young minds to explain what I do, and a little bit about how all the processes work."
