Video: Shropshire primary thanks parents and children for all their support
A Shropshire primary school held a leavers' event with a twist – the children had a formal dinner led by a master of ceremonies.
Church Preen Primary School, near Much Wenlock, held the event for both parents and students.
Headteacher Dave Tinker said: "It's a culmination of all the work we do with school etiquette with the children, so they know all the cutlery to use, it's a special event to prepare them for life.
"It's our way of saying thank you to the children and parents for their support over the years."
The three-course meal consisted of fruit salad, a roast dinner and then cupcakes for dessert.
Mr Tinker said: "The event is all run by parents and volunteers, everybody pitches in.
"We had people out picking flowers and one of our parents is a florist and she makes the most lovely flower arrangements.
"It's just so anchored in the community.
"It's wonderful, it really commends the community, it's a real community effort.
"It shows appreciation for all the children's hard work.
"The children look forward to it every year."
The children donned their best clothes and had a lesson on etiquette in the morning from master of ceremonies David Stallsworthy. He travels from Bristol for the event each year.
Mr Tinker said: "He said of all the events he does all year around the country, this is the best one. That meant a lot to us.
"The children loved the day, they had a disco after the dinner. The hall was dissembled and turned into the disco.
"We have one child who had his first day and he said it's the best thing he's seen."
The school has raised its standards and has gone from "requires improvement" to "outstanding" in the space of two years.
Mr Tinker said: "The outstanding report in May was due to a real team effort in a relatively short space of time."
