T-rex visit a monster success for Shropshire pupils
Children at a Shropshire primary school had a roar-some treat. St Mary's School in Albrighton became Jurrassic Park for a day, when they were visited by a six foot Tyrannosaurus Rex called Sophie.
The pupils have been learning about dinosaurs as one of their topics in science.
So teachers decided to give them a special treat, hiring in Sophie, and Chewy, a baby T-Rex, to give the youngsters a more hands-on experience.
The puppets were hired in from the Education Group Ltd in Northamptonshire, and people from the group came in to give a special session on fossils, before the dinosaurs were revealed.
Year one teacher and science co-ordinator, Jane Maybury, said: "The children really enjoyed the opportunity to become paleontologists for the morning, uncovering a range of fossils including a Triceratops horn and Iguanodon footprint.
"The fossil workshop provided by the Education Group enhanced the children's learning experience of this Science topic.
"The introduction to Chewy the baby T-Rex and then the incredible spectacle of meeting the 6ft T-Rex juvenile, Sophie during a special assembly for years one and two created quite an uproar and helped them to imagine what it would have been like when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
"We anticipate the children speaking of little else."
