Shrewsbury student launches hair raising challenge for charity
A student from Shrewsbury Sixth Form College aims to raise money in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) through a theatrical challenge.
Andrew Farrow, 17, from Shrewsbury has created ‘The Bald or Bald Cap Challenge’ as a result of his role as Uncle Fester in the MADA (Music and Dramatic Arts) performance of The Addams Family later this month.
He said: “Uncle Fester in The Addams Family is bald and I thought about a way to get into character by actually shaving my hair off instead of wearing a bald cap. I’d like to raise £1,000 or more for the MNDA and if I do, I’ll shave my hair off.”
A family friend of Andrew’s suffers with Motor Neurone disease and this is one of the reasons Andrew wanted to donate the money raised to the MNDA. “I am slightly scared about the thought of shaving all my hair off – but I know it’s for a great cause," he added.
David Place, programme leader for music and performing arts at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College said: “I am extremely impressed with Andrew’s initiative and philanthropy. The Bald or Bald Cap Challenge is entirely his idea and a very clever way to raise money for an extremely worthy cause.”
