Hills are alive at Tenbury Wells school
The hills surrounding a school were alive with music when pupils took part in their annual show.
Youngsters at Abberley Hall School in Great Witley, near Tenbury Wells, performed The Sound of Music to packed audiences for their end of term celebration.
Hundreds of parents and friends saw the cast of over 50 children take to the stage at the school’s Ashton Hall in the classic musical over three days.
Clare Eynon, head of drama at Abberley Hall, who directed the show, said that all 11, 12 and 13-year-old pupils at the school had either performed on stage or worked as part of the front of house, sound or lighting teams.
She said: “It was a spectacular production and the children have worked exceptionally hard to make it a success for their audiences.
“They have been rehearsing for several months and they put on a great production with wonderful sets, props and costumes.
“Just as in the original film the Von Trapp children were dressed in clothes made out of old curtains – we were lucky enough to find seven pairs of disused floral curtains in a cupboard in the school which were perfect.
“Our wardrobe mistress Toni Gabb did an amazing job in using them to create wonderful outfits for the seven members of the family out of the fabric,” she added.
Pupils taking leading roles included Katie Villar, playing Gretl; Tobias Branston, playing Friedrich; Nell Ware playing Louisa; Joshua Richardson as Captain Von Trapp; Georgina Cooper as Maria; Hester Lockett as Liesl; Oliver Haggard playing Kurt; Jemima Martyn-Smith playing Brigitta and Olivia Gough as Marta.
Abberley Hall School educates around 300 children aged from two to 13 drawn from throughout Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and surrounding counties.
