The move, part of Dyfed-Powys Police's battle to save £13.5 million, will see Welshpool Police Station's front counter shutting up shop later this year.

Instead, people will have to visit an information van at the car park at the town's Tesco.

The force said the move would not affect policing in the town and officers would continue to be based there.

A mobile police station will be in Tesco car park between 10am and 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The force is also working with Powys County Council to provide new Public Information Points to be based at various locations.

Chief Constable Jackie Roberts, said: "The station will continue to provide 24 hour accessible policing ser-vices and the public can still contact the police by telephone; 999 in an emergency, or 101 for non-emergencies."
