Floods still causing problems in Shropshire
Flooding continues to cause pro-blems across Shropshire and mid Wales today, as road closures and flood barriers remain in place.
Parts of the county are still underwater after yesterday's flooding caused chaos for motorists and rail travellers.
Firefighters had to pull motorists from cars this morning, as standing water caused difficulties . Problems continue to affect the A49, with part of the road between Church Stretton and Marlbrook closed in the southbound direction this morning.
The A49 was closed southbound between Church Stretton and Craven Arms yesterday morning after parts of it became submerged by a foot of water. Drivers were diverted through Much Wenlock. However, the northbound A49 remained open with drivers able to pick their way through the worst affected areas.
Specialist crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to help clear excess flood water from the A49 in Marshbrook yesterday.
Six flood alerts remain in place for Shropshire today, including the Lower and Upper Teme, the River Severn in Shropshire, the Severn in Frankwell, Shrewsbury, the River Worfe in Cosford and the Tern and Perry Catchments. River levels are expected to peak in Shrewsbury later this morning at three metres, with peaks expected in Bridgnorth and Ironbridge this afternoon.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: "In terms of the Severn, it is steady and sort of peaking now. It is a long slow peak basically."
Emergency services were called out to Craven Arms at 6.30am yesterday to help a nurse who became stuck in flood water driving her Mini One. Tracey Veysey, said: "I'm very grateful for the excellent fire crew who promptly arrived and pulled me to safety and to Central Garage at Church Stretton for their kind help."
Fire crews from Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Wellington and incident commander from Shrewsbury also assisted paramedics and police after a car smash in Hope Bowdler on the B4371 at 11am.
A man in his 20s driving a Ford Fiesta had left the road and gone down an embankment. He was taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, trains between Ludlow and Shrewsbury were delayed by 30 minutes yesterday following flooding at Church Stretton.
